- Choose Headspace if you want a large, polished meditation and sleep library and to build a meditation habit.
- Choose Mentis if you want a daily check-in that tracks how you're doing and a step-by-step plan for one problem (sleep, overthinking, relationships, work stress), with Indian context.
- Both are wellness apps, not therapy.

Where Headspace is stronger
Headspace has spent more than a decade building one of the most recognised meditation libraries in the world: beginner courses, hundreds of guided sessions, sleepcasts, focus music and mindful movement. If what you want is to learn meditation properly, or you already meditate and want variety, its depth is hard to match.
Where Mentis is different
Mentis starts from a different question: what's going on with you today, and what's one small thing that would help? The daily check-in takes about two minutes — Mimi asks 3–5 short questions and your mood appears as weather for Sleep, Social, Work and Lifestyle. After a few check-ins, Patterns shows what's moving your mood ("late-night focus sessions are showing up in your morning check-ins").
Then the plans do the work. Each is 9 chapters over 3–4 weeks, a few minutes a day, built on techniques with decades of research behind them — for sleep, the CBT-I toolkit that a 2015 meta-analysis in Annals of Internal Medicine linked to falling asleep about 19 minutes faster; for overthinking, worry postponement and concreteness training. Meditation is one part of the mix, alongside journaling, short reads, outdoor steps and habits.

Who should pick which?
Headspace suits you if…
You want to meditate, you like a large library to browse, and you're comfortable with English-only global content.
Mentis suits you if…
You have a specific thing to work on (sleep, overthinking, work stress, feeling distant from people), you like being told the next small step, and you want something that checks in on you daily.
Frequently asked questions
Is Headspace available in India?
Yes, Headspace can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play in India. Its AI companion Ebb was, according to a December 2025 Headspace announcement, available to subscribers in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, with more countries planned in 2026 — check the app for current availability.
Is Mentis free?
Mentis is free to download and the daily check-in with Mimi is free. Some plans and features are part of a paid subscription; the current offer is shown in the app.
Can I use both?
Yes. Some people use Headspace for daily meditation and Mentis for the check-in and a plan for a specific problem like sleep or overthinking. They don't conflict.
Is either app therapy?
No. Both are wellness and self-help apps. Headspace offers separate coaching and therapy services in some countries; Mentis does not provide therapy. For persistent distress, see a qualified professional or call Tele-MANAS 14416.
