If you're in danger right now
- Call 112 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
- Tell one person near you, a family member, friend, neighbour or hostel warden, and ask them to stay with you.
- Move away from anything you could use to hurt yourself, and get to a safer room or place.
- Call Tele-MANAS on 14416 to talk it through with a trained counsellor, any time of day or night.
If you're struggling, but not in immediate danger
You don't need to be in crisis to deserve support. If you've felt low, anxious or numb for more than two weeks, or it's getting in the way of work, studies, sleep or relationships, talk to someone:
- Tele-MANAS (14416): free counselling and referral to services near you.
- Your doctor or a government hospital: most district hospitals have a psychiatry outpatient department under the District Mental Health Programme.
- A psychologist or counsellor: many offer online sessions. Ask for an RCI-registered clinical psychologist or a qualified counsellor.
- Your college or workplace: many have a counselling cell or an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that's free and confidential.
If you're worried about someone else
Ask them directly how they are, and whether they've had thoughts of ending their life. Asking does not put the idea in their head; it gives them permission to talk. Listen more than you speak, help them call 14416 together, and don't leave them alone if they're at risk.
